Commissioned for a site in the West Village, the memorial - created with Ghiora Aharoni - is a double stainless steel arc demarcating a precinct of contemplation and remembrance, surrounded by trees to create a landscaped room within the urban fabric. The structure memorializes September 11th through two poignant aspects: the desperate search for the missing and the erasure of the twin towers of The World Trade Center from the Manhattan skyline.

Stainless steel columns aligned in the outer arc recall the distinctive mullions that defined the exterior of the original towers which were visible from the memorial site. The inner arc recreates a "Collage of the Missing," the sea of handmade signs which covered the walls and fences around the adjacent medical facility where 9/11 survivors were transported.

The two arcs are individually evocative, and work together to create a kinetic relationship with viewers approaching from the north. From afar, the stainless steel columns of the outer arc appear to be a solid enclosure, but as one approaches, the columns gradually "open" to reveal the memorial collage. At night, lights illuminating the memorial magnify the silhouettes of people passing by or visiting the site. The shadows animate the memorial and act as a reminder of human perseverance.
