Their personal partnership of Peter Stamberg and Paul Aferiat began in 1976. Stamberg Aferiat + Associates was founded in 1989. Rizzoli Interna­tional published a monograph of their work titled Stamberg Aferiat Architec­ture in 1997 featuring essays by art and architecture icons Paul Goldberger, Joseph Rosa, David Hockney, Richard Meier and Charles Gwathmey. An updated edition of their award-winning monograph was issued in 2012. The award-winning work of Stamberg and Aferiat work is widely published around the world.

PETER STAMBERG attended Columbia College, the Rhode Island School of Design, and The Architectural Association of London Graduate School of Architecture. He has a Bachelor in Fine Arts (1972), Bachelor of Architec­ture (1973), and AA Graduate Diploma (1975). He served on the National Advisory Council of the Cranbrook Academy of Art. He was also on the Board of Directors of Publicolor, a youth development organization that re­cruits disaffected teens to paint schools in bright colors as a means to make schools more welcoming environments and empowering children to become community leaders and complete their education and sits on the Conserva­tion Committee at the Whitney Museum of American Art.

 PAUL AFERIAT attended Carnegie-Mellon University where he received his Bachelor of Architecture degree (1975). He started as one of the first employees of Richard Meier before becoming an Associate at Gwathmey Siegel Architects in charge of the Museum of the Moving Image. He has served on the Architecture Advisory Board of Carnegie-Mellon University and currently sits on the Conservation Committee at the Whitney Museum of American Art.
